Kansas City's Katie Karel is really, really good in all sorts of ways, and you should go see her, even if you don't know who she is. Not only does she have a great voice and technique, she is gorgeous, drop-dead funny, and turns on a dime into the most reflective moments an actor can produce. She first came to Blue Strawberry's attention in a standout performance of Indecent last year, one of the continually terrific and superbly cast productions that Stellie Siteman and De Kaplan mount as Max and Louie.
"Karel commands knock-em-dead brass and star power. She also has a voice that can pulverize concrete. . .Karel is unstoppable.” - Pitch Magazine
"Karel is a ball-breaker." -Scene Magazine
"Karel can galvanize an audience in a heartbeat ... she is by turns convincingly comic, melancholy and reflective." -Kansas City Star
"Her voice is mighty. . .I was really moved to tears." -KC Studio
"To quote Garrison Keillor, humor has to surprise us and Katie Karel does in spades." -Village News
Katie Karel is an actor, singer, host, and performer whose talents have lead her east to west, and a hell-of-a-lot-of in-between. St. Louis theater-goers may remember Katie from Max and Louie’s St. Louis premiere of ‘Indecent’ at the Grandel Theater last summer. Karel heads to the arches by way of Kansas City and promises to bring all that jazz with her. An evening filled with song, laughter, a bit of dance, and a few tears (mainly at how bad the dancing is), featuring the music of Barbara Streisand, Judy Garland, Patsy Cline, and more. Come join for a few laughs, a few stories, and a voice that has the critics raving.
