Colin Heshmat’s Standard Ground Colin Heshmat’s Standard Ground

New York-based pianist Colin Heshmat brings a trio featuring Jonmarc Dale on drums and Andrew Binder on Bass to Blue Strawberry . “Standard Ground” will feature jazz and Great American Song Book standards inspired by the straight-ahead jazz jam session tradition.

Colin Heshmat grew up in Springfield, Illinois where he first became curious with a keyboard when his parents brought one home for him at the age of 5. His curiosity lead him into studying classical piano privately through childhood until he became a student of jazz by the age of 18. Between his engineering studies at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Colin studied privately with jazz piano faculty member Chip Stephens and performed in jazz groups through the college of music. Beyond university, Colin has garnered opportunity to study with pianists including Donald Vega, Ethan Iverson, Fred Hersch, and the late Barry Harris. As an active pianist, Colin has performed at clubs and sessions across the United States, including Churchill grounds, The Velvet Note (Atlanta, GA), Andy’s Club, The Green Mill (Chicago, IL), Minton’s Playhouse, Smalls, Mezzrow, Fat Cat (New York, NY), and Jazz Central (Minneapolis, MN). Through these musical communities, Colin has met and played with many well-studied artists including Pharez Whitted, Dick Oatts, Bobby Broom, and the late Roy Hargrove amongst others. Colin Heshmat currently works as a freelance musician out of New York City.
