The musical genre that became known as Doo Wop came up in the 1940s in the African-American communities of our large cities. Engaging melodic lines, tight group harmonies, lots of of short, made-up, single-syllable, almost words (e.g., doo wop) that serve as punctuated placeholders for the harmonies, all play a part in Doo Wop's enchantment.
St. Louis’s own Nostalgia (born The Del Vanes in the 1950’s on the streetcorners of North St. Louis) comes in with an afternoon of the genre-defining Doo Wop of the Dells, The Spaniels, The Moonglows, The Ink Spots, The Flamingos, Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Coasters, The Drifters, Jackie Wilson and Gene Chandler.
