A solo R&B Blues Singer Debut from St. Louis, Vickie Spencer has been singing since she was 5 years old. Her musical journey began in church, where her Godfather played the piano. Alongside her sister and two cousins, she became a member of The Petty Singers, with her Godfather encouraging her to lead songs despite being the next-to-youngest member of the group. He traveled throughout St. Louis, taking the group to churches where they would sing their hearts out. Vickie also served as one of the lead singers at her home church.
In the mid-1970s, Vickie expanded her musical experience by performing with the locally known St. Louis band The Fabulations. While attending college in Valparaiso, Indiana, she sang with the Black Caucus Choir and later formed a female trio called Truth, Love, and Devotion, where she proudly represented "Devotion." The trio performed at a variety of venues, including the State Prison in Chicago.
She sang for weddings, but ultimately found a calling for singing at funerals to help families during their time of bereavement by providing a much-needed service. This has been her way of helping out during a critical time of need while giving back and giving someone's loved one a great Homegoing.
Just this year, she came out to the Open Mic at the Blue Strawberry only to observe and support the very awesome and extremely talented Black and White Band on some Tuesdays. Now, she is very proud to perform for some loved ones her very own show called “OTHER THAN A FUNERAL”.
