The Tryin' Times

Alternative-string duo Jason Scroggins and Jesse Farrar have traveled many miles, literally and figuratively, to bring original American music to the table.

Both men have spent decades touring, writing and recording in national acts. Scroggins was a part of the legendary “third coming of bluegrass” scene emerging from Colorado in the late 90’s. Spending many nights picking under the Rocky Mountain moon with greats like Jeff Austin (Yonder Mountain String Band) and Vince Herman (Leftover Salmon), and many others. He toured full time with Shanti Groove through the new millennium and became a staple in the St. Louis music scene.

Farrar was the upright bassist, vocalist and a principal songwriter for alternative bluegrass band Old Salt Union. Farrar hails from alt-country royalty: Jay’s uncle Jay Farrar was an original member of critically-acclaimed music groups Son Volt and Uncle Tupelo.

Sean (Shotgun Sean) Kamery will be joining the band on fiddle. Sean plays with Nick  Gusman and the Coyotes, and the Mel Pupillio band.

St. Louis’s own Mattie Schell opens.
