For over the last decade, Emanuel Harrold has been a transformative force in the music world, known for his unique blend of gospel, jazz, blues, hip-hop, and funk as the drummer and original member of Gregory Porter’s band. With nearly 200 concerts each year since 2012, he is recognized as one of the most seen live drummers today. Emanuel's signature sound graces acclaimed albums such as Be Good, Liquid Spirit, All Rise, and Still Rising, as well as live recordings from London and Berlin, highlighting his impact on contemporary jazz.

Emanuel's musical journey began in a family steeped in musical heritage. Growing up in the church where his father served as pastor, he developed his passion for music through family gatherings filled with song. His grandfather's Memorial Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps provided an inspiring foundation, allowing him to immerse himself in the local gospel scene, Off-Broadway musicals, and the jazz community of St. Louis.

A self-taught musician, Emanuel further refined his skills at the prestigious New School in New York, earning a BFA in Jazz and Contemporary Music. His artistic path has led him to participate in numerous Grammy-winning projects, contributing to millions of records sold and digital streams. Beyond music, Emanuel has also showcased his talents as both a musician and actor, participating in the historical reenactment of the classic jazz film The Connection, collaborating with talents like Rene McLean, the son Of the great Jackie McLean.

His collaborations extend across a rich tapestry of artists, including poet Amiri Baraka, Roy Hargrove, John Hendrix ( Lambert, Hendrix & Ross), Randy Westin , Olou Dara, John Hicks, Ronnie Mathews , Wynton Marsalis, Damon Albarn, Flea, Tony Allen (Fe La Ku ti) , Jonathan Baptiste, De La Soul, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Kidz In the Hall, Terrance Blanchard, Terrace Martin, Laura Mvula, Ben l'Oncle Soul and many others. Emanuel's brother, incomparable trumpeter Keyon Harrold, adds to this musical legacy.

Deeply committed to nurturing the next generation of musicians, Emanuel serves as a mentor and educator, engaging with underserved communities. Recently invited to the prestigious Montreux Jazz Residency in Switzerland for 2024, he continues to inspire young artists. As a creator, composer, and producer, his latest album, We Da People, released in 2022 on Gearbox Records UK, features the standout track "I Think" with Gregory Porter. This soulful composition has garnered over 1 million streams and celebrates themes of humanism, love, and community, featuring contributions from notable artists like Malcolm-Jamal Warner and Jermaine Holmes.

Emanuel has also partnered with Shareef Keyes to launch a new project called “Brooklyn Saint.” This collaboration blends jazz, soul, funk, rock, house and hiphop, reflecting the vibrant cultures of their cities. Their upcoming album promises to be an exciting addition to the musical landscape they are creating together.
