For fifteen years beginning in the 70’s, Jan Shapiro sang five, six and seven nights a week, traveling mostly through the Midwest and South, with occasional excursions to New York and New England, where in 1985 she accepted a teaching position at the Berklee College of Music. She served there as Chair of the Voice Department rom 1997-2010. Jan has also been a faculty member at Fontbonne College and SIUE.

Jan is the author of numerous articles and research papers, and was a 1989-90 Recipient of the National Endowment of the Arts Grant. Her most recent book, “So You Want to Sing Jazz” was published by Rowman/ Littlefield in 2016.

Jan has four CD’s of her own, Read Between the Lines, Not Commercial, Back to Basics, and  her most recent, Piano Bar After Hours.  She resides in her home town of St. Louis, where she maintains a home studio and offers online private lessons via Skype, Zoom and Facetime.

Jan is making her Blue Strawberry debut.
